Script It, Then Say It

Lock your script
Start by locking your script. Take your DEAR MAN, with the GIVE and FAST moves you added. Read it out loud — actually out loud, not in your head. Does it sound like you, or does it sound like a worksheet? Adjust the words until they're yours, until you'd actually say them this way. Reading it out loud is itself a rep; it's where you find the lines that sound stiff and fix them before it counts.
Pick a low-stakes target
Now, for your first delivery, pick something real but not explosive. Do not start with the biggest, most loaded conflict of your life — that's like testing a new technique in a championship fight. Pick a smaller real one: returning something and asking for a refund, asking a coworker for a small change, setting one minor boundary. Train on the small mat first. Get a rep in where the stakes are survivable, so the skill is partly built before you bring it to the hard stuff.
Deliver it
Then deliver it. Have the actual conversation. Use your anchor word from module one beforehand — feet, breath, your word — to steady yourself before you walk in. Run your script. And here's the thing: it will not go perfectly. They'll say something you didn't plan for. You'll forget a line. That's completely fine and expected. Delivered beats perfect, every time. The goal isn't a flawless conversation. The goal is that you did it, on purpose, with a plan — which is more than you've probably ever done in a hard conversation before.
Debrief in writing
And after — this is where the learning actually locks in — debrief it in writing. Which letters landed? What did the other person actually do? What would you adjust next time? The conversation itself is the rep, but the debrief is where you extract the lesson from it. Without the debrief, you just had an experience. With it, you built a skill you can sharpen.
