Welcome to the Room
Marcus sat in my group for three weeks before he said a word. Three weeks. He'd come in, take the same chair in the corner, keep his coat on the whole hour like he might leave any second. And when he finally talked, he said the thing that almost everyone in that room is thinking but won't say out loud. He said, "I think I'm just broken." I want to tell you what I told him, because if you're here, there's a decent chance you've thought the same thing about yourself.

Cold open
Marcus sat in my group for three weeks before he said a word. Three weeks. He'd come in, take the same chair in the corner, keep his coat on the whole hour like he might leave any second. And when he finally talked, he said the thing that almost everyone in that room is thinking but won't say out loud. He said, "I think I'm just broken." I want to tell you what I told him, because if you're here, there's a decent chance you've thought the same thing about yourself.
Who I am
Let me tell you who's talking to you, so you know this isn't going to be soft. I spent twenty years as a police officer in St. Louis before I became a therapist. Two decades watching people on the worst day of their lives — and watching which ones came through it and which ones didn't. Then I crossed over and trained as a therapist: I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, I'm board-certified in DBT through the Linehan Board, and I'm a clinical hypnotherapist. I also train in Aikido, which is going to matter more than you'd think. I tell you all that for one reason: I don't deal in slogans. I've seen what actually holds people up when everything's coming apart, and it isn't positive thinking.
Name the state
So let me name where you probably are. If you bought this course, something in your life is asking more of you than you feel built to handle. Maybe it's a person. Maybe it's grief, or a job that's eating you, or an anxiety that won't switch off. You're tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. And somewhere underneath it, quietly, is that same thought Marcus had — that maybe the problem is you. That you're just built wrong.
The core reframe
Here's the truth this entire course runs on, and I need you to actually take it in, not just nod at it. You are not broken. You are undertrained. Those are completely different things. Broken means something is wrong with you that has to be fixed — and you can't fix it, so you're stuck. Undertrained means there are specific skills you were simply never taught. Nobody sat you down and showed you how to find the gap between a feeling and an action, how to get through a crisis without making it worse, how to let an emotion move through you instead of running you. Those are skills. And skills can be built by anybody who's willing to do the reps.
The promise
So here's what's going to happen over the next six weeks. You are not going to read about resilience. You are going to build it. One wall at a time. By the end you'll have a structure inside you — I call it the room — that holds when everything outside is trying to break you. It's not a metaphor I'm being cute with. By module six you'll have an actual, written, personal protocol you can run at two in the morning when it all comes down on you.
What to do now
A few ground rules. Watch the lessons in order — each wall holds up the next, so don't jump ahead. Do the practice at the end of every module; the reading and watching is optional, the reps are not. This is education, not therapy — if you're in real crisis, you call or text 988, that's not what this is for. And one more thing before you go to the next lesson.
The first rep
Write down one sentence. Just one. What made you open this course? What's the thing in your life right now that made you think you needed this? Be honest, nobody's reading it but you. Write it somewhere you'll find it again, because in module six I'm going to ask you to read it back to yourself, and I want you to see how far you came. That's your first rep. Go do it, then I'll see you in the next lesson, where we pull apart the three lies that have been keeping you stuck.
